I won't drag out this review. Just like Black Dementia, which I reviewed not too long ago, this is a French black/extreme metal band, "surprisingly" also released on the same label.
The songs and in particular the total playing time of more than an hour is just too much for such heavily digested music. Most songs comes and leaves in blastbeats or rapid double bass drums, courtecy of Altar.ZK6 (actually all four band members have lame pseudonuyms), who also does his service in the to me more known band Arkhon Infaustus.
The track titles tells me that the lyrics are in French, but that doesn't matter much in either a positive or negative way. One thing I don't get is why both the intro and one of the regular songs bear the album title. To sum it all up this never ends up being bad, just uninteresting... There are probably lot of other people who enjoys this much more than me though.

CRYSTALIUM aus Frankreich sind Vertreter der orthodoxen Welle. "Doxa O Revelation" ist ihr viertes Album seit 2001, und die Entwicklung der Band ist beachtlich. Betitelten sie ihr Demo noch mit "Whirlwinds Of Fire We Ride" (sic!), haben sie sich mittlerweile zu Ausnahmetalenten der schwarzen Zunft entwickelt und dürfen sich tatsächlich hohe und mächtige Könige schimpfen. Das etwas holprige Englisch haben sie abgelegt, verfassen stattdessen alle Texte in der Heimatsprache, und ihre Musik profitiert davon. Vergleiche mit der "Panzerdivision Marduk" sind deshalb fehl am Platz, weil "Doxa O Revelation" über eine Stunde lang ist und nicht nur eine halbe, weil CRYSTALIUM in ihre Raserei tatsächlich viel Atmosphäre einbauen. Für das omnipräsente, Maschinengewehr-artige Schlagzeug zeichnet Altar.ZK6 verantwortlich, seines Zeichens bekannt als Live-Ergänzung von Ad Hominem - was ein dicker Minuspunkt ist. Dennoch: Hier soll ein Album besprochen werden, nicht mehr, nicht weniger. Die Raserei wird bei CRYSTALIUM, völlig untypisch für Bands, die den brutalen Geist der Höchstgeschwindigkeit zu bändigen wissen, hier und da von melodiöser Emotion gezügelt, dann wieder durch wirre Leadgitarren-Riffs neu entfacht, atmosphärisch außerdem durch die stark kontrastierenden Intro und Outro klassischer, aber leicht verfremdeter Machart in Szene gesetzt. Ein schönes Layout, in welchem die Texte genauso in Fetzen hängen wie die Riffs aus den Boxen schleudern, rundet das Album ab. Châpeau, Monsieur Vizinet, mit CRYSTALIUM haben Sie eine exzellente Band an Land gezogen. (JP)

I'm surprised not to have heard a lot more about Crystalium , “Doxa O Revelation” being, after all, their fourth full-length offering of extreme, passionate, attention-grabbing, ear-abusing French black metal. This release sees the band evolve their harsh, blast-heavy style in an even more crushing direction, resulting in something gloriously noisy and tricksy but also subtly majestic and elegant, which should appeal to anyone who wants extreme music to engage them on a cerebral level.
Crystalium understandably share common ground with many of their fellow countrymen, with drummer Altar also contributing to the equally noisy Arkhon Infaustus, and weird atmospheric opener “Doxa O Revelation” hints at the now-familiar ferocious Gallic grandeur. The album utilises a variety of guitar tones, from the expected heavily distorted leads to a more individual bassy, deep riffing that gives the sound a greater range, counterbalancing the occasional shrillness of drums and vocals. Crystalium do make use of some atmospheric elements on this album, to create the short instrumental tracks “Passe Le Mot” and “A l'origine” , and to add texture to songs such as the second “Doxa O Revelation” (there are two on the album, slightly confusingly), but it is no longer a prominent aspect of their approach.
From the crushingly dense drumming to the demented, tortured vocals in the French language, the most important thing about Crystalium's sound is now sheer aural intensity. Tracks such as “Silence, Silence Porteur d'Honeur” and “A l'Absinthe, a l'Extreme” constantly switch directions, structured with chaotic genius by the energetic, evil-sounding guitars. I've heard this band criticised for a lack of dynamics, with everything pitched at the same, near-hysterical level, but the pure inventiveness of the guitar work on this release should be enough to keep anyone with half a brain interested. Furthermore, the album, like predecessor “Diktat Omega”, is littered with insane solos that add true character and enjoyment; it's good to hear a black metal guitarist really go for it and new axe-man Fanatic KV fills Dracir's shoes with ease.
“Doxa O Revelation” requires a bit of stamina on the part of the listener, with its constant, sometimes uncomfortable twists and turns, its lengthy tracks and its absolutely unrelenting tone of pure hatred and fury, but it's well worth the effort. There are dynamics and variations aplenty inside all the chaos, but don't expect too much space to breathe and take them in. Those who like their black metal served in digestible snack-sized chunks should look elsewhere for their kicks; this one's a nasty, grim banquet.

Je n'ai jamais vraiment été un adepte de l'utilisation de la langue Française dans le domaine musical. Il faut vous dire que j'ai dû me farcir à mes débuts les premiers albums de Trust, de Warning, Blaspheme et Klaxon (ça vous marque pour toute une vie). J'ai, jusqu'à il y a peu, toujours considéré qu'il s'agissait d'un frein à une reconnaissance internationale des sorties Hexagonales (quoique Bernie Bonvoisin en Anglais…). Jusqu'à il y a peu donc, car Crystalium fait partie de cette vague de groupes qui impose les productions made in France bien au-delà de ses frontières. Quatre longues années après le déjà très bon «Diktat Omega» (sur Adipocere) et après quelques changements de line-up, Crystalium nous revient plus puissant et dévastateur que jamais. Une heure de violence que j'ai envie de qualifier d'intelligente. Crystalium démontre qu'il existe bel et bien un ‘son' black metal Français. Si, par le passé, la Norvège et plus tard la Pologne ont impressionné les autres pays Européens par la richesse et l'originalité de leurs scènes, il est plus que temps de constater que depuis quelques années, la France, avec l'invasion de groupes/commandos tels que Nehëmah, Malleus Maleficarum, Antaeus et surtout Arkhon Infaustus et Crystalium, imprime un nouveau souffle à la scène black metal Européenne. Je ne vais pas vous énumérer les qualités de Crystalium, «Doxa O Revelation» fait partie de ces albums qu'il est inutile de vouloir résumer…il vous suffit juste de vous le procurer pour vous en convaincre. Sans aucun patriotisme (je ne suis pas Français et ne vit pas dans votre beau pays), Crystalium fait partie de ce qui se fait de mieux dans la scène black metal actuelle. Jordy.

Dronckaert : De Fransozen van Crystalium brengen met 'Doxa O Revelation' hun vierde album uit, en dat laten ze niet zomaar aan je voorbij gaan. Crystalium maakt furieuze black metal in de stijl van Dark Funeral, Judas Iscariot, Godless North, en andere aanverwanten, dus als je van lekker rustige passages houdt, kan je dat bij deze alvast vergeten.
Van het begin tot het eind hakt 'Doxa O Revelation' er op los en heeft het vrijwel geen momenten van rust, wat dus eerlijk gezegd wel een beetje ten koste gaat van het album. Op den duur gaat dit album gewoon vervelen, terwijl juist de zeldzame rustige passages op het album het beste zijn, zoals te horen is in een nummer als 'Le Viieme Radical'. Begrijp me niet verkeerd, ik vind het knap wat de heren hier klaarspelen, en het klinkt allemaal wel goed, maar als ze wat ingetogener speelden af en toe was het album nog veel beter geweest.Wat ik trouwens even kwijt wil, heren doe iets aan dat snare drum geluid, het lijkt wel 'St.Anger" op 3000 toeren! Het is al zo'n muur van geluid, dan kan je zon galmende koekenpan niet gebruiken. Liefhebbers van furieuze black metal kunnen hier lekker de haren op losgooien, ik raad jullie dan wel aan eventjes de nekspieren te trainen. En ja, "less is more". Beste nummers: 'Le Viieme Radical' en 'Doxa O Revelation'.

Black/Death Metal band Crystalium hails from Lyon France. Doxo O Revelation , is my first listening encounter with Crystalium , but it's a good one. Entrailles Et Univers starts out Doxo O Revelation in a brutal way, which the song has built around blasting drums, fast guitars, and a face burning vocal performance.
I can hear comparisons in Entrailles Et Univers to Zyklon and countrymates Arkhon Infaustus, the Black Metal atmosphere can also be found in the song. Silence, Silence Porteur D'honneur is a strong track on the album reaching the seven-minute mark, the guitars are suited more toward Black Metal,with the often used tempo changes. Doxo O Revelation the title track of the album, clocks in at eight-minutes and one-second. A guitar lead is found in Silence, Silence Porteur D'honneur also, which keeps things interesting.
The production on Doxo O Revelation , is pretty much flawless everything on the album comes through perfectly clear and loud, as nothing sounds muffled or distorted. I will be putting forth alot of time in the next couple of weeks trying to find some albums by Crystalium to purchase. I will be keeping track of Crystalium in the future and here is to another top-notch Extreme Metal band from France.
CRYSTALIUM sind so eine Band, die ich bisher lediglich vom Namen her kannte aber nie antestete. Es mag an eben jenem Namen liegen oder mir fiel einfach nie eine sonderlich positive Meinung über die Franzosen auf, keine Ahnung. Andererseits muss man auch mal sagen, dass ich schon viel schlechtere Namen von Gruppen kenne und der oben angeführte Grund ja eigentlich kein gutes Argument ist. Sei es drum: „Doxa O RevelatioN“ wurde just via Aura Mystique veröffentlicht und was mich schon an der visuellen Gestaltung ansprach, ist das Abbild eines heraldischen Löwen. Hübsch stilisiert, sicher irgendeinem Wappen entnommen, aber eben fein anzusehen.
Frankreich bietet häufig eher atmosphärischen, kargen Black Metal, CRYSTALIUM sind aber offensichtlich Anhänger der „martialischen“ Spielart und das machen sie verdammt gut. Leidenschaftlich, wütend und emotional ergriffen schreit Kra Cillag, was so geht. Rasend wirbelt seine Stimme, thront wie ein Berserker auf den anderen Instrumenten. Im Verlauf von „Doxa O RevelatioN“ wird auch schnell klar, wieso die Musik so packend ist. Es wird nicht stumpf gedroschen, vielerlei Facetten und Klangesnuancen werden eingewoben, die Gitarren wagen mal ein Vorpreschen, probieren gerne neues aus. Man lauscht einfach einem vielfältigen, ideenreichen Album, welches übrigens sehr filigran eingespielt worden ist. Sei es bei „Silence, Silence Porteur d'Honneur“, in welchem ein imposantes Gitarrensolo zum Einsatz kommt oder bei „A l'Absinthe, A l'Extreme“, in welchem der Hörer zwischen morbiden Tönen und plötzlich losbrechenden, rabiaten Momenten hin- und herpendelt. Ohnehin sind alle Einsätze der Instrumente respektive des Gesanges präzise geplant, so scheint es wenigstens.
Aber das alleine reicht ja nun noch lange nicht, denn Können ist das eine, Kreativität beziehungsweise das Talent, Lieder spannend zu gestalten, ist das andere. Doch wie schon längst von mir angedeutet, sind CRYSTALIUM natürlich auch dazu in der Lage. Alleine der Opener / Titeltrack schürt immense Erwartungen; zunächst wird wie ein Orkan gewütet, was man prinzipiell auch durchhält. Dazu heult immer wieder die Gitarre mit einem famosen Riff auf und entreißt den Hörer aus den Fesseln der Musik um ihn eleganter zu umgarnen. „A l'Absinthe, A l'Extreme“ nannte ich zwar schon, jedoch sollte man die harscheren Augenblicke noch mal aufgreifen. Man hat das Gefühl, als könne man die blanken Emotionen aus den Gesichtern herauslesen, so sehr erschlägt und packt den Hörer das Stück. Trotz allem gibt es auch leichte Hänger, „Discipline Nation Negative“ beispielsweise wird teils absichtlich mit verzerrten Gitarren in hohe Tonlagen getrieben, dies wirkt aber nicht ausgeklügelt genug. Dafür gibt es in dem Track später noch eine feine Passage, die wieder all das, was ich bisher lobend erwähnte, in sich birgt. Besonders hervorheben möchte ich zuletzt noch „Propagande Cillaguienne“. Hier geht es einigermaßen gediegen zur Sache, dafür wird das charismatische Stimmorgan von Kra Cillag voll ausgefahren und die Gitarrenarbeit brilliert mit ihrer Finesse.
„Doxa O RevelatioN ist ein klasse und starkes Album, CRYSTALIUM zeigen sich virtuos und vielseitig. Ich selbst bin ganz erstaunt, denn ich hätte niemals eine solche Vielfalt erwartet, als ich die äußere Hülle betrachtete. Insofern kann ich die Franzosen nur allen Freunden von Black Metal mit einem Einschlag Spritzigkeit und Offenheit empfehlen, ein Antesten ist die Musik allemal wert.

Dalla Francia un altro gruppo della Aura Mystique dalla presenza sui palchi più che decennale, del quale vengo a conoscenza purtroppo solo ora.
Autore di un ferocissimo BM con fortissime influenze del death metal (un po' come gly Zyklon per capirci) i Crystalium si ripropongono al pubblico con 'Doxa O Revelation' nuovo album che estremizza ancora di più i concetti di guerra, elitarismo supremo e filosofia nera che il gruppo tratta da sempre.
Musicalmente il genere proposto dai nostri non permette molto respiro e quindi non è che brilli di originalità, come era logico supporre a priori, ma l'esecuzione tecnica dello stesso è magistralmente eseguita, merito della tantissima esperienza maturata in questi anni, grazie anche al supporto on stage offerto a gruppi del calibro di Immortal, Agressor, Angel Corpse, Bloodhtorn, Himinbjorg, e ...And Oceans.
Le tematiche affrontate, come già detto, vanno ricercate fra quelle classiche di un certo tipo di BM guerresco ed elitario, di Nietzschiana memoria, che alcuno vogliono sia schierato politicamente, ma che il più delle volte è solo oro per gli stolti.
Registrato intelligentemente (cioè senza essere troppo invasivi nella pulizia sonora) 'Doxa O Revelation' senza aggiungere nulla al seminato d'altri, si propone di ribadire nei 60 e passa minuti di durata la presenza dei Crystalium nel panorama BM francese nel miglior modo ch'essi conoscono: ferocemente!
Violento, velocissimo, claustrofobico e nichilista. Se vi piaccono gli Zyklon e tutto il filone del BM influenzato dal death, i Crystalium sono la vostra prossima mossa

Io ho sempre pensato che i Crystalium fossero senza ombra di dubbio una delle migliori formazioni black metal del folto panorama transalpino, i primi tre album della band “Par le Sang, le Feu & le Fer - Baise de la Charogne a l'Ange” del 2001, “De Aeternitate Commando” del 2002 e “Diktat OmegA” del 2003 sono tre album di grandissimo valore, ora dopo ben quattro anni da quello che io reputo il loro miglior lavoro la band francese torna alla carica con questo nuovo “Doxa O Revelation”, album che non vedevo l'ora di ascoltare per vedere se i Crystalium erano riusciti nell'impresa di rimanere sempre su livelli eccelsi. Sicuramente la band francofona non ha fallito l'ennesima prova, ma “Doxa O Revelation” segna un netto cambiamento nel sound dei francesi. Sempre di black metal violento e potente si tratta, ma questa volta la musica della band di Lione è stata pesantemente contaminata da un virus che piana piano si è fatto strada nel sound dei nostri. Questa malattia, che si è insinuata nelle composizione non è altro che un avvicinamento costante a un sound più di matrice death metal che i Crystalium hanno fatto loro, plasmandolo e adattandolo alla loro musica. Il black metal guerresco e carico di melodie oscure ed epiche degli esordi, lascia spazio ad un approccio più tecnico e pulito, dove traspare il grosso lavoro e il grande miglioramento che i francesi hanno effettuato sotto il prospetto prettamente tecnico/strumentale, che però ha affievolito quella carica primordiale e feroce dei primi lavori, sostituita da un riffing più complesso e articolato, che in ogni caso non ha intaccato l'impatto dei brani che rimane sempre diretto e potente. Migliorata anche la produzione, molto nitida e pulita in sintonia con il nuovo corso della band che comunque riesce nell'impresa di mutare forma senza però snaturarsi completamente e quello che conta di più capace di scrivere ancora ottime canzoni, diverse per struttura e approccio rispetto capolavori dei primi tre brani, ma sempre violente e cariche di furia. Credo che questo album sia per i Crystalium un album di transizione, infatti sono sicuro che nel prossimo lavoro la band francese troverà la sua definitiva forma, che penso sarà ancora più vicina al death metal.
